This past week unfolded under the lingering square between Mars and Saturn: an unstoppable force faced an unmovable object. I have a few novelties to share from this period, including a couple of quick astrological analyses.

Sexo e Castidade (Sexo Gay é Bom – XXIII)
In this video, I explore how concepts such as chastity and objective sexual virtue can still make sense without relying on a Christian framework, once sex is understood as the fulfillment of our cognitive capacities.
This also marks my return to the Sexo Gay é Bom series, which I am now actively revisiting as part of a longer-term project to transform it into a book. Returning to the series has made clear that there are questions I wanted to articulate more carefully or had not yet addressed.
O Sentido da Promiscuidade (Sexo Gay é Bom – XXIV)
If sex is the realization of our cognitive capacities, does it make more sense to have a single partner or a variety of partners? And even if one option turns out to be more coherent, does the other still retain value?
In this video, I examine promiscuity through the lens of sex as carnal knowledge, attempting to clarify its philosophical stakes rather than moralize it.

28ª Aula – Teologia Política do Petróleo e Fenomenurgia da Terra
In this session of the Seminário de Fenomenurgia, inspired by recent readings of Reza Negarestani, I sketch how oil can be understood as a secularized version of prime matter in ancient and medieval theology. I argue that attempts to “un-ground” the Earth through the notion of a “holey space” fail, because the Earth’s fundamental role does not depend on solidity, but on position.
Drawing on Husserl, Heidegger, Vicente Ferreira da Silva, Jewish interpretations of Genesis, and Proclus, I propose the Earth as Absolute Rest.
Neoplatonic Virtue: It’s Good to Be a God’s Slave
In this class, we discuss Simmias’ and Cebes’ objections to the philosophical will to die, based on Socrates’ exoteric argument against suicide: if we belong to the Gods as their possessions, why would we want to leave such excellent masters?
One striking outcome of the discussion was how the theurgic turn of later Platonism strengthens Cebes’ objection. If material rituals can belong to the highest virtue, then the desire to abandon the body becomes more puzzling, not less.

2) Astrological Analyses of Recent Political Events
Observations on the Removal of Glauber Braga
On Tuesday, December 9th, Brazilian congressman Glauber Braga was forcibly removed from congress after occupying the chair of the president of the lower house and refusing to leave. The astrology of the time, particularly the ascendant, marked the undolfing of the event wonderfully:
16:04 – Glauber occupies the presidency chair and refuses to leave. Taurus rises 🐂, with Venus, ruler of Taurus, placed in the 8th house, the so-called “inactive place”, and also in Sagittarius, pointing toward moral issues.
17:34 – The TV Câmara broadcast is cut. Gemini, the sign of communication, rises, with Mercury, its ruler, in the 6th house, one of the dark houses due to its lack of aspect to the Ascendant.
18:08 – Glauber is forcibly removed shortly after Venus, queen of peace, descends below the horizon.
All of this unfolds near the exact square between Mars and Saturn, which perfected earlier in the week and remains within a three-degree orb: martial aggression colliding with saturnine immobility.
Approval of the “Dosimetry Bill”
Later that same night at 02:26 AM in Brasilia, congress passed the infamous “Dosimety bill”, giving lighter sentences to Bolsonaro and the vandals that attacked the seats of the three branches of government on January 8th, 2023. Again, the astrology was spot on:
Libra, the sign of measure, rose on the Ascendant. Venus, its ruler, was close to the Sun and below the horizon. The vote took place late, “under cover of night.” Mercury ruled the 12th house of imprisonment and stood opposed to Uranus, signaling reversals and abrupt shifts.

Highly recommended. This piece resonates strongly with my recent reflections on the Church and on The Christ of Brazil:
I do not wish for a world in which Christianity and Islam no longer exist; that would merely be inverted supersessionism, the same violence exercised by a different subject. What I want is a world in which these traditions no longer exist as they do today: stripped of their claim to mono-universality, disarmed of their temporal sorcery, and rendered incapable of continuing to colonize possible futures. A Christianity and an Islam able to coexist with paganism without the need to declare it “overcome” would be radically different traditions, and perhaps precisely for that reason, more faithful to their original powers of love, justice, and transcendence, freed from imperial compulsion.

Esse retorno deixou claro que havia questões que eu gostaria de ter articulado com mais cuidado ou que ainda não havia abordado.

28ª Aula – Teologia Política do Petróleo e Fenomenurgia da Terra
Nesta aula do Seminário de Fenomenurgia, inspirada por leituras recentes de Reza Negarestani, esboço como o petróleo pode ser compreendido como uma versão secularizada da matéria prima da teologia antiga e medieval. Argumento que tentativas de “desfundamentar” a Terra por meio da noção de um “espaço esburacado” fracassam, pois o papel fundamental da Terra não depende de sua solidez, mas de sua posição.
Recorrendo a Husserl, Heidegger, Vicente Ferreira da Silva, interpretações judaicas do Gênesis e Proclo, proponho a Terra como Repouso Absoluto.
Neoplatonic Virtue: It’s Good to Be a God’s Slave
Nesta aula, discutimos as objeções de Símias e Cebes à vontade filosófica de morrer, com base no argumento exotérico de Sócrates contra o suicídio: se pertencemos aos Deuses como suas posses, por que desejaríamos abandonar senhores tão excelentes?
Um resultado particularmente interessante da discussão foi perceber como a virada teúrgica do platonismo tardio fortalece a objeção de Cebes. Se rituais materiais podem integrar a virtude mais elevada, então o desejo de abandonar o corpo torna-se ainda mais enigmático, não menos.

Observações sobre a Retirada de Glauber Braga
Na terça-feira, 9 de dezembro, o deputado federal Glauber Braga foi retirado à força do plenário após ocupar a cadeira da presidência da Câmara dos Deputados e se recusar a deixá-la. A astrologia do momento, em especial o Ascendente, marcou de forma notável o desenrolar do evento:
16:04 – Glauber ocupa a cadeira da presidência e se recusa a sair. Touro sobe 🐂, com Vênus, regente de Touro, posicionada na casa 8, o chamado “lugar inativo”, e também em Sagitário, indicando questões de ordem moral.
17:34 – O sinal da TV Câmara é cortado. Gêmeos, signo da comunicação, sobe no Ascendente, com Mercúrio, seu regente, na casa 6, uma das casas escuras por não aspectar o Ascendente.
18:08 – Glauber é retirado à força pouco depois de Vênus, rainha da paz, descer abaixo do horizonte.
Tudo isso ocorre próximo à quadratura exata entre Marte e Saturno, que se perfez no início da semana e ainda permanece dentro de um orbe de três graus: a agressividade marcial colidindo com a imobilidade saturnina.
Aprovação da “PL da Dosimetria”
Mais tarde, na mesma noite, às 02h26 da manhã em Brasília, o Congresso aprovou a infame “PL da Dosimetria”, que reduz as penas de Bolsonaro e dos vândalos que atacaram as sedes dos Três Poderes em 8 de janeiro de 2023. Mais uma vez, a astrologia foi precisa:
Libra, signo da medida, ascendia. Vênus, sua regente, encontrava-se próxima ao Sol e abaixo do horizonte. A votação ocorreu tarde, “na calada da noite”. Mercúrio regia a casa 12, associada à prisão, e estava em oposição a Urano, indicando reviravoltas e rupturas súbitas.

Altamente recomendado. Este texto dialoga diretamente com minhas reflexões recentes sobre a Igreja e sobre O Cristo Brasileiro:
Não desejo um mundo onde Cristianismo e Islamismo não existam; isso seria apenas o supersessionismo invertido, a mesma violência exercida por outro sujeito. O que desejo é um mundo em que essas tradições não existam tal como existem hoje: despojadas de sua pretensão à mono-universalidade, desarmadas de sua feitiçaria temporal e incapacitadas de continuar colonizando futuros possíveis. Um Cristianismo e um Islamismo capazes de coexistir com o paganismo sem a necessidade de declará-lo “superado” seriam tradições radicalmente outras e, talvez precisamente por isso, mais fiéis às suas potências originárias de amor, justiça e transcendência, libertas da compulsão imperial.
